The Black Room (2017)

Michael Reed: Movies, TV, and Bio | Prime Video

Petal and I settled onto the couch ready to see some hot demon sex, maybe even some softcore-horror porn type stuff. The movie is about a demon that craves for and thrives on sex, and an attractive young couple has newly moved into the house where the demon resides. So, yeah, we were expecting some hot demon sex. Instead, while The Black Room has some sexy scenes, it certainly is not an erotic horror film, but rather a campy B-movie of the tallest order.

Indeed, the cheesy acting had us thinking right from the outset that we were watching a parody, and it does have just as much satire as sex and gore. And don’t get me started on the CGI. I don’t like CGI anyway, but the quality in this flick is like that from the mid-90s, rather than 2017. The CGI is so bad, in fact, that I have to wonder if it was purposeful.

But it’s not all bad. As I said, there are some sexy moments–the bathtub scene is particularly hot, and the scene where Jennifer (Natasha Henstridge) is pressing herself against the vibrating washing machine is equally nice. And since the campiness is clearly purposeful, I suppose it’s forgivable.

THE BLACK ROOM: Horrifying For All The Wrong Reasons | Film Inquiry Watch the Opening Scene from Lin Shaye Movie 'The Black Room' - Bloody Disgusting

And anything with Lin Shaye deserves a watch, am I right? She’s become somewhat of a cult hero in the horror genre in recent years. Lin isn’t at her Insidious best here, but she’s still fun to watch.

It’s goofy and, at times, sexy. Petal and I laughed out loud multiple times, and remained entertained til the end. Just don’t go in expecting to tent your pants or soak your panties.

You can watch it for free with Amazon Prime.
