Flesh and Blood: The Hammer Heritage of Horror
Hammer Film Productions kept horror cinema alive when it was damn near dead. Universal had all but given up on the film genre that brought them so many riches in the 30s and 40s. Frankenstein and Dracula were reduced to parodies of their former selves. And then Hammer came along. This historical account of Hammer Films is superb. Society (1989)
Never mind whatever socio-political message is trying to be conveyed–“The rich have always fed off the poor”–the gore is simply terrific. Honestly, if it weren’t for the slow-burn nature of Society, and Billy Warlock (as Bill Whitney) trying way too hard to be Michael J. Coming to Audible!
Visceral: Collected Flesh by myself and the great Christine Morgan will be coming to audiobook in the very near future. C.J. Grey’s audition to be the narrator blew me way. He’s perfect for the job. Can’t wait to hear the final product.
The Universal Frankenstein Franchise Retrospective
This is a brief but informative and entertaining glimpse at the Frankenstein films that would help define the monster movies of the 1930s and 40s. Things 5: Strange Monsters (2019)

Psychophonia (2016)
Before I get started on the actual movie, let me say that that movie poster is one of the coolest I’ve ever seen. It’s right there with the posters from I Spit on Your Grave, The Evil Dead, and House. As an author and publisher, I know the value of great cover art. It’s true, you can’t judge a book by its cover, but it’s also true that cover art often sells a book. The same goes for movie posters. Read more “Psychophonia (2016)”
