Vampire movies these days are one of two things: either a “horror” romance starring pretty boys with zero body hair and zero body fat or yet another reimagining of Dracula. Of all the horror sub-genres, vampire movies are the ones I’m least likely to enjoy. Read more “30 Days of Night”
Ilsa, She Wolf of the SS
Why this isn’t widely considered one of the greatest World War II films ever produced, alongside Saving Private Ryan, Schindler’s List, The Pianist, and Das Boot, I’ll never know. I mean, in terms of historical war cinema, this really is as good as it gets. Okay, okay, I’m joking. If you’re a WW2 buff like me, don’t expect to satiate your craving for a good movie on the war by watching this. Although, it is better than Dunkirk and that new version of Midway. Are We Not Cats
Not horror, per se, but horrifying all the same.
I stumbled across Are We Not Cats on Amazon after watching Housewife–a movie I’ll have to watch a second time before I can formulate a coherent thought about it. Read more “Are We Not Cats”
The Void (2016)
It’s not often that you find great 80s style gore in this age of CGI trash special effects. I’m talking gore in the same vein as The Thing, Cronenberg movies, and the works of Tom Savini. Polaroid (2019)
Think Final Destination with a camera.
If there was a predictability scale for movies, Polaroid would be rated off the charts. An old camera is found that–of course–kills the people in the pictures. Read more “Polaroid (2019)”
Underwater
Where to start…
Underwater, directed by William Eubank (whom I’m not familiar with), is a departure from what’s become a tiresome genre–the water horror genre. Read more “Underwater”
Tormented (1960)
Bert I. Gordon produced, directed, and wrote numerous horror and sci-fi B-movies from the 50s to the 80s. If Tormented is any indication of the quality of his other works, then I look forward to checking them out. Read more “Tormented (1960)”
Nightmare on Elm Street: Up All Night
When it comes to fan films, this is as good as it gets.
In fact, I would venture that it’s a good deal better than the Nightmare on Elm Street remake disaster from 2010. Read more “Nightmare on Elm Street: Up All Night”
Blood Feast
Believe it or not, this trailblazing piece of cinematic debauchery was released a mere three years after Psycho, which was apparently so controversial in part because of the near bloodless killing of a woman in a shower. Blood Feast obliterates Read more “Blood Feast”
13 Cameras
Why do I feel this happens a lot more than we know? Because it certainly does! The passages at the beginning of 13 Cameras state that 30 million security cameras are sold per year and eight-thousand people per year are spied on in their own home. Read more “13 Cameras”
