As you see on the poster, a director named Philip Chidel called Last Girl “the most extreme horror ever filmed!”
I’m gonna have to disagree rather strongly with Mr. Chidel. Has he never seen Cannibal Holocaust or The Human Centipede or A Serbian Film or Hostel or any number of Asian films that are far more gruesome than this. I could probably put together a list of fifty movies more “extreme” than this rather quickly.
IMDB synopsis: Kidnapped and tortured, elite call girl “#12” must overcome her attackers and fight through a post-industrial hell to avoid the brutal filming of her own death. Last Girl builds to a shattering conclusion you won’t soon forget. Previously available only in the Detroit underground, Renegade Video brings the extreme vision of reality filmmaker Jorje Krippe to a mainstream audience for the first time.
I have a question, what’s an “elite call girl”?
Anyway, Last Girl is about snuff films being made. A husband tries to find his wife who has been kidnapped by these folks making the snuff films. And then a prostitute–pardon me, elite call girl–gets wrapped up in trying to find the wife too, but then gets kidnapped herself and begins getting tortured. The husband is forced to film all this for some fucking reason. He’s been promised that if he films this chick being tortured and killed, then he’ll get his wife back, or some such shit. It’s dumb, even if I don’t have it exactly right. And why the hell do the characters continue to carry the camera around while they’re trying to escape? That’s even dumber.
But I can live with a dumb plot if the movie offers something else, like great gore, excessive nudity, intense action sequences, or stellar acting. Last Girl really offers none of this.
While there are some decent gore scenes, the film frequently (and lazily) cuts away from scenes that should have been the most intense. Since this is a found footage style film, many of the action sequences are too blurry or are mostly off camera (again, lazy), so I can’t tell you if they’re any good or not. Same goes for the acting. Half the characters have their faces blurred out and the other half are screaming and crying the whole time. In fact, there was way too much panting and crying and walking down hallways slowly. It gets tiresome.
If you’re really looking for extreme, I suggest watching Audition or I Spit on Your Grave or Martyrs. Many others. But if you want to watch Last Girl, you can find it on Tubi and Amazon.
