Society (1989)

Never mind whatever socio-political message is trying to be conveyed–“The rich have always fed off the poor”–the gore is simply terrific.  Honestly, if it weren’t for the slow-burn nature of Society, and Billy Warlock (as Bill Whitney) trying way too hard to be Michael J. Fox, this film would probably be as much a classic as Re-Animator and The Evil Dead. Read more “Society (1989)”

Before I get started on the actual movie, let me say that that movie poster is one of the coolest I’ve ever seen. It’s right there with the posters from I Spit on Your GraveThe Evil Dead, and House. As an author and publisher, I know the value of great cover art. It’s true, you can’t judge a book by its cover, but it’s also true that cover art often sells a book. The same goes for movie posters. Imagine The Hangover as a gory horror movie. Seriously. Hostel: Part III has nearly as many similarities to The Hangover as it does to the first two installments of its own franchise. A guy is getting married and decides to party-it-up with three buddies for his last weekend as a free man. So they lie about where they’re going and head to Vegas instead.
