For a smoking hot woman, Megan Fox is quite unlikable. In this movie, anyway. I can’t speak to whether she’s a bitch in real life or not.
Fox plays Emma, a woman who is wisped away to a remote cabin in the frozen tundra of upstate New York by her equally unlikeable husband, Mark, played by Eoin Macken. Emma is a callous cheater and Mark is a controlling asshole. Somehow, we the viewers are supposed to care what happens to these jerks, Emma in particular.
But we don’t.
After a “romantic” night in the cabin in which neither character appears to enjoy themselves or even pretend to, Emma wakes up handcuffed to Mark, who is seated on the bed next to her. Then he kills himself. This should be a very dramatic, emotional scene. But Emma’s response is about as exciting as that of a teen watching the same Tik Tok video for the thirtieth time. From there, Emma’s situation gets worse, as it becomes evident Mark planned this whole situation, with Emma’s own demise being the ultimate goal.
Till Death has its moments. It’s a suspenseful flick, with numerous instances where you think surely there is no way Emma can get out of this. The problem is, you don’t really want her to. Once it’s been established that she’s a bitch and a cheater, who really cares if she’s stabbed to death or frozen at the bottom of a lake? Not me.
And there’s something that bothered me the entire film: When Mark kills himself, handcuffed to his wife, Emma is wearing a nightgown. Shortly there after, in a new scene, she’s wearing Mark’s bloody shirt. How and why did this happen? How does Emma remove the shirt and put it on herself when they are handcuffed together? I suppose, she could turn it inside out as she removes it from Mark, putting it on herself. But it doesn’t appear to be inside out. And that still doesn’t explain why. I think we’re supposed to believe that thin white dress shirt is keeping her warm…but anyone who’s ever worn one knows better. Plus, it’s drenched in blood. This aspect of the movie is weird and distracted me from that scene forward.
I suppose it was an entertaining movie overall, though seriously flawed. I won’t even mention the stupid CGI snow and broken ice effects.
