Society (1989)
Never mind whatever socio-political message is trying to be conveyed–“The rich have always fed off the poor”–the gore is simply terrific. Honestly, if it weren’t for the slow-burn nature of Society, and Billy Warlock (as Bill Whitney) trying way too hard to be Michael J. Fox, this film would probably be as much a classic as Re-Animator and The Evil Dead. Read more “Society (1989)”

The Universal Frankenstein Franchise Retrospective

From instant to classic to B movie to satirizing itself. Despite the sad decline of “the monster,” its status as an icon of horror cannot be denied. The same can be said for the legendary Boris Karloff.

Before I get started on the actual movie, let me say that that movie poster is one of the coolest I’ve ever seen. It’s right there with the posters from I Spit on Your Grave, The Evil Dead, and House. As an author and publisher, I know the value of great cover art.
